Château Gazin

Château GAZIN wines are a very typical product of the Pomerol terroir. Their lavish richness offers a wide aromatic range of black and red fruits which harmonizes with their intense purple or garnet colour. They also frequently offer hints of mint, plum, chocolate, coffee or liquorice, a bouquet of almond, toast, tobacco and vanilla. Maturity gives them a nose of spices, truffles, undergrowth and gamey scents : fur, leather... Their taste is characterized by their silky tannins, their balance and concentration, enhanced by a delicate oaky note. Feminine and delightful due to the dominance of the Merlot, Château GAZIN wines can be drunk young or after ageing for 10 -15 years or more. They make an excellent accompaniment to white and red meats and game, as well as to almond, caramel, vanilla and red fruits desserts.

Wine Advocate

Often excessively woody in its youth, Gazin appears to have toned down the wood component, resulting in a more savory and balanced wine. The finest effort produced since 2001, the 2006 is a supple, concentrated, rich Pomerol offering up aromas of cedar, plums, black cherries, and subtle new oak. This opulent, dense, structured, big wine is another outstanding success from an appellation that excelled in 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025.

Score: 90-92. —Robert Parker, April 2007.

Wine Spectator

Offers some berry and mineral character, with light dried herbs. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a medium finish.

Score: 89-91. —James Suckling, 2007.

Wine Enthusiast

Barrel sample. A wine that is, initially, all tannin, hard and very concentrated but difficult to get into at this stage. The toughness will probably soften with time, although a hot pepper character denoting higher alcohol will probably last.

Score: 88-90. —Roger Voss, June 21, 2006.
