Château Guiraud
A vintage defined first by a small harvest because we lost 50% of the harvest on the night of April 6th. The wine is typical, defined by a pure fruit and a very beautiful aromatic definition. There are touch of exotic fruits like mango, but also draws on the lemon confit. Floral nose of angelica dominates. We recognize also the peppermint character of Guiraud. On the palate the wine is clear, has a nice acidity, plays a perfect balance.

Tasted single blind against its peers. Having been parsimonious with my score last year due to some sulphur issues, I can report that Guiraud has turned good?very good. It has a very fine bouquet with scents of lemon curd, pineapple and quince that gains momentum in the glass. The palate is supremely well-balanced with crisp acidity. There are a myriad of flavors in this Sauternes with dried honey, quince, Seville orange marmalade and a touch of ginger. There is also great persistency towards the finish. This is a sublime Sauternes. Tasted January 2012.

Barrel sample. Firm, richly structured, powered through with botrytis, a dried apricot and peach character, which is tight, the acidity compensating with a great vivid character.

Wine Spectator
A ripe, flashy style, with layers of creamed peach, Jonagold apple, candied citrus peel and dried apricot, all stitched with lovely acacia honey and floral notes. This has power and purity. Drink now through 2022.

Biodynamic designation is regulated by Demeter, an international certification organization. Biodynamic agriculture is based on the view of a farm as a self-contained organism. Certified organic vineyards must meet Demeter"s additional criteria for a period of one year before earning the designation "biodynamic."
Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

Wines that are still in the barrel and have yet to be bottled. Futures offer the opportunity to invest in a wine before it arrives in our store.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
