Domaine de L'Arlot

The wines of Domaine de L'Arlot are aged in about one third new wood from the Allier forest and are bottled after 16-18 months for the premier crus, 14-15 months for the village wines. The reds are bottled unfiltered.

Wine Spectator

Delivers gorgeous aromas and flavors of rose, sandalwood, raspberry, cherry and earth that are pure and remain intense as this builds to a long finish. Well-integrated, with a vibrant structure, showing finesse and breed. Best from 2012 through 2027. 5 cases imported.

Score: 95. —Bruce Sanderson, May 31, 2009.

Burghound

A discreet but brilliantly layered nose features a strikingly elegant mix of red and blue pinot fruit plus violet nuances trimmed in anise, cinnamon and clove where the spice elements can also be found on the supple, concentrated and again, beautifully textured flavors that possess the same sophisticated mouth feel as the Suchots, all wrapped in an explosively long finish. This is a wine of harmony and the sense of balance is so fine that this is one of those Zen wines, where everything is in perfect concordance. Drink: 2016+

Score: 93. —Allen Meadows, January 01, 2009.

Wine Advocate

Smoky black tea, cumin, and star anise in the nose of the l'Arlot 2006 Romanee Saint-Vivant ally themselves to lightly-cooked cherry and plum on an expansive, soothingly creamily-texture palate. Smoked meat and inner-mouth floral perfume are prominent here, too, and it is hard to know whether to praise this year's Suchots all the more for rising to grand cru pretensions, or to ask whether this Romanee Saint-Vivant should not - as befits its classification - already be distancing itself more obviously from the wine of its neighboring vineyard. There seems though to be even more subtlety here; and there is without question a sense of lift and overall elegance to the finish that the Suchots cannot match. This should reward following for a dozen or more years, and its full mysteries will no doubt take a few years to unfold, but still I doubt you will disappointed to savor it nearer-term.

Score: 93. —David Schildknecht, December 2009.
