Marengo
Garnet red color. Nose is typical, fruity, black cherries, dried rose, spicy notes. Flavor is dry, warm, full-bodied, soft, clean, sweet and well-integrated tannins, quite persistent. Try with stewed beef, Piedmontese medium aged cheese.
Integrated insect and disease control is carried out. Sulphur and copper base products are mainly used. No insecticides are used. No herbicides are used. Natural cover crops are left (grass cover) between the rows of vines. The grass is mowed in the summer and left to form humus (the turf is left in place). Only the lowest doses of SO2 are used in the wines.
International Wine Cellar
Deep red. Pure, perfumed nose shows lovely brown-spice lift but is very reticent today. Aromatic and vibrant but youthfully unevolved; most impressive today for its energy, definition and lift. Shows very suave tannins for the year. A very classy 2005 in the making.

Wine Advocate
Marengo's 2005 Barolo Brunate is a big, muscular wine endowed with tons of dark red fruit. The wine possesses terrific energy and focus as it blossoms on the palate, showing notable depth and plumpness. It is another highly successful effort in this vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.

Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
