Number 52 Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Wines of 2012

A naturally sweet wine, of dark dense mahogany color. Deep rich nose with reminiscent of prunes and chocolate. A umptuous wine of great intensity, rich concentrated fruit in the mouth with a full, rich, succulence, seemingly unending finish.

Food Pairing: The right wine to end a meal in a marvellous way, to sip with dessert or topping icecream, fruit-salads and pastries or with blue cheese. Delicious refreshment with ice.

Wine Advocate

The impressive 1927 Pedro Ximenez Solera, from a Solera begun nearly 80 years ago, boasts a dark amber color as well as an extraordinary nose of creme brulee, liquefied nuts, marmalade, and maple syrup. Huge and viscous, yet neither cloyingly sweet nor heavy, it is a profound effort priced unbelievably low. It is meant to be drunk alone at the end of a meal.

Score: 96. —Robert Parker, June 2005.

Wine Enthusiast

A rank well above most PX sweeties, with lush but fresh aromas of raisin and spice that are distinctly not syrupy or heavy. Feels thick, but there's enough acidity to cut through the wine's weight. Flavors of caramel and chocolate are ideal, and the finish is smooth, not heavy, and has bounce in its step. A beautiful PX any way you cut it. Editor's Choice.

Score: 94. —Michael Schachner, April 01, 2012.
