Christian Moreau Pere et Fils

The tiny plot of Grand Cru Valmur sits snuggly between Vaudésir to the north and Les Clos to the south. Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils owns a total of 3 acres of this famed terroir. The plot is densely planted (7000 vines per hectare) with vines averaging 50 years old.

Burghound

This also is very backward and unevolved, indeed the residual aromas from the malo are still present. The rich, full-bodied, dense and quite serious flavors possess an almost pungent minerality on the iodine-suffused flavors that culminate in a palate staining and mouth coating finish that is quite dry and moderately austere. This should also be remarkable in time.

Score: 92-94. —Allen Meadows, October 2011.

International Wine Cellar

Medium yellow. Enticing aromas of candied lemon peel and fresh pineapple. Dense, silky and fine-grained, with terrific stony grip to the lemon cream and mineral flavors. Sappy, saline grand cru with real tension, thanks to a strong impression of acidity. Finishes dry and classic, with excellent citric lift and length. A strong showing.

Score: 91-94. —Stephen Tanzer, July 2011.

Wine Advocate

The 2010 Chablis Valmur emerges from the glass with a rich tapestry of aromas and flavors. This, too, is another of the richer wines in this line-up. It is a big, spherical effort that covers every inch of the palate with fruit. Today the Valmur comes across as a bit heavy relative to the finest wines in this lineup. The Valmur is one of the wines that sees the highest amount of oak (50% in 2010) as Moreau believes the slightly higher percentage of clay in this site yields bigger wines that are inherently better suited to oak than his other grand crus. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025.

Score: 90-92. —Antonio Galloni, August 2011.
