 Chateau Clement Saint-Jean is made at Cave Saint Jean in Bégadan in the Medoc region of Bordeaux. This property has been successfully managed and run directly by the Cooperative Cave "Les Vignerons d'Uni-medoc" since 1996 under the expert care of enologist Laurent Vache. It is located not far from the Gironde estuary. The Cave Saint Jean is one of the oldest properties in the cooperative, started in 1934, and has garnered much attention due to the many awards they win consistently. Today's feature, for example, won a gold medal at the 2012 Concours de Bordeaux and another gold medal at the Concours General Agricole de Paris 2012. The 15 hectares (37 acres) of vineyards are planted to 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon which approximates their percentages in the wine. The vines are an average of 25 years old. The wine is fermented in stainless steel vats and then aged in French oak barrels for 9 months before release. |
