Moccagatta Barbera d'Alba 2011
Piedmont, Italy

"The estate’s 2011 Barbera d’Alba is a joyous wine bursting with fruit. Juicy dark berries, raspberry jam, mocha and sweet spices are some of the notes that jump from the glass in this decidedly flashy Barbera. The ripe, exuberant personality of the year comes through in the wine’s voluptuous personality. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. "

Moccagatta makes some of the best single vineyard Barbarescos in the Piedmont. Here is their Barbera; your opportunity to pick up one of their wines at a true bargain price! On sale for the next week!

THIS OFFER ENDS November 26, 2012 OR BEFORE IF WE SELL OUT!

Franco and Sergio Minuto's extraordinary 11-hectare (27 acre) Moccagatta estate holds vines in the two townships of Barbaresco and Neive. Their Barbarescos come from three crus of radically different character – Basarin, Cole, and Bric Balin – each one vinified separately so as to enhance the character particular to the terroir. Moccagatta takes part in the EU regulation to encourage low-environmental-impact methods and to improve the preservation of natural resources in rural areas through agricultural and environmental measures. Integrated insect and disease control is carried out. Sulfur- and copper-based products are mainly used and at the minimum dosage levels possible. Only organic fertilizers (manure) are used. This manure comes from traditional cattle farms where no concentrated feed is given to the animals. Cover crops (grass cover) are left between the rows of vines. In the summer the grass is mowed. In some years the soil is tilled and manure is worked into the soil. The soil is tilled between one vine and another in each row to avoid the use of any herbicides. They also now produce Barbera D'Alba from old-vines Barbera in Neive and Barbaresco, planted in 1957 and 1970! Four days of maceration on the skin in stainless steel, and finally 6 months of aging in used barriques. This is incredibly complex Barbera from one of the most famous wineries in the Piedmont!
