"The 2010 Aloja Negre is a blend of 40% Garnacha, 25% Carinena, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah from 10- to 80-year-old vines in the Falset Valley, aged for three months in American and French oak. The nose is fresh and lifted with dark cherry and plum fruit. It has impressive delineation with well-integrated, creamy French oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple, grainy entry, fine acidity and a core of pure blackberry and boysenberry fruit that expands in the mouth. It demonstrates good structure and grip on the finish. This is a well-crafted Montsant red and an outstanding value. Drink now-2018."

 Miquel Coca i Fito is the driving force behind this newer operation in the Montsant region of Spain. Miquel and associate Patrick Webb have wineries in a number of different regions of Spain. So Miquel brings his extensive experience to the newer winery. And for this operation he also joined together with his brother Tony. They produce a white wine, rose and the red blend that we bring you today at Aloja. The winery is located in the Falset Valley area of Montsant, a remarkably beautiful region with steep mountains rising to over 3300 ft. The climate is harshly continental with very hot and dry summers and very cold winters. A remarkably infertile soil is combined with a scarce annual rainfall, often under 16 inches a year; this would not allow many other crops. But as we know as the vines suffer, frequently the wines are better. |
