Supple & Delicious 91pt Spanish Priorat Red Blend On Sale!
45% OFF!!

Gotes del Priorat 2010
Priorat, Spain

"The 2010 Gotes de Priorat is a blend of 60% Carinena and 40% Garnacha sourced from hillside slopes in the north and northwest of Priorat. Only part of the crop is de-stemmed and the wine is matured in 50% new French oak, the remainder second-fill. It has a lifted, rounded bouquet of wild strawberry and raspberry fruit interlaced with lavender, all with fine delineation and vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, fine tannins. This is a comparatively feminine Priorat wine with subtle raspberry and fresh strawberry notes towards the lithe, elegant finish. Delicious! Drink now-2018. "

The Clos del Portal estate was established in the Priorat appellation of Spain in 2001 by architect Alfredo Arribas who directs the cellar with the technical support of Joan Asens. The property rises up from the river Siurana valley to the spurs of the Montsant mountain range. In a relatively short period of time the wines from this estate were recognized as a standout in Priorat. They are characterized by their elegance and subtlety. The estate is made up of many small parcels of vineyards in different microclimates, some on flat land but many on hillside terraces. These different mineral bases help the wines become even more complex when blended. Their main grape is Grenache but they also use Carignan, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. All the wines are made from estate grapes. In 2008, Arribas decided to make a second label called Gotes of Priorat. He wanted to use grapes from a section of the Priorat that is dryer with older vineyards than many of his other vineyards. Interestingly these vineyards mostly face in a northerly direction and receive far less sun exposure. Today's feature was manually harvested using small crates to protect the fruit. The bottle says that it is comprised of almost equal parts Carignan and Grenache but the winery says they also add a little Cabernet Sauvignon. It is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels before bottling.
