Alianca was founded in 1927, over 80 years ago, by 11 associates led by Domingos Silva and Angelo Neves, in Sangalhos (Anadia's county), Bairrada region. The company started its activity by exporting to Brazil, Africa and Europe. Alianca is proud of their quality wine, sparkling wine and brandy not only available in Portugal but now in the 60 countries they export to. Represented in all the main wine regions of the country, Alianca's main goal is to achieve the highest quality possible. The company has several estates and around 600ha (1,480 acres) of land in regions including Alentejo, Douro, Dao, Bairradas and Beiras. Their investment in purchasing the various estates and the modernization of the cellars allowed for the increased level of quality across the board. It also allowed for the purchase of high quality oak barrels, to be used in aging. Alianca wines includes Quinta dos Quatro Ventos, Quinta da Garrida, Quinta da Terrugem and Quinta das Baceladas. Alianca has won several awards, nationally and internationally. Today's feature, the Quinta das Baceladas, from the winery of the same name is in the center of the Bairradas region, in Cantanhede. This is the only wine produced there. They started development of this property with five hectares (12 acres), planting the traditional regional variety – Baga - since 1991, and also Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemakers Pascal Chatonnet and Francisco Angunes teamed up all three of these grapes to create this very elegant wine. It is aged in French oak for 12 months following fermentation. |
