For over a hundred years the Recchia family have been master wine makers. For many generations the family has lived in the heart of Valpolicella in the valley of Negrar. Wine making is in their blood. Their love for the local terroir and traditions make their wines special. Riccardo-Guido, Chiara, Enrico, Roberto, Elisa and Luca Recchia, the latest generation, have the same passion as their grandparents but have improved upon their roots. They have enlarged the wine cellar and incorporated the latest technology to improve the quality of their wines. The dry stone walls and steep sided valleys make up the landscape of the territory. Valpolicella is a unique area. It is at the beginning of the pre-alp slopes with south facing valleys on the edge of the Padana plain. It is a short distance from the ancient roman town of Verona. The area traces its wine growing traditions back from the Roman period. The Valpolicella wines are made from a combination of grape varieties: Rondinella, Corvina, Corvinone and Molinara. This makes the wine different from the traditional one variety wines such as Merlot, Cabernet and Chardonnay. In the town of Negrar, right next to the company headquarters there is a small, precious vineyard where the grapes for this Amarone are grown. The vines average 20 years old. After harvest the grapes go through a drying process that lasts about 5 months and then they are pressed and the fermentation/maceration starts and lasts about 15 days. The resulting wine is aged for 4 years in 20-30HL (528 to 792 gallons) oak barrels (20% of the wine is aged for 6 months in smaller barrique). After bottling, it spends another 6 months aging before release.
