Argiano is an ancient place where men searched for Ara Jani, the legendary altar of the Roman god Janus. The name was formed from this quest. It is located at the summit of a wonderful hill, south-west of Montalcino. The magnificent Villa of Argiano was built in the Renaissance by the Peccis, a noble family from Siena. Since 1500, a number of noble families produced wines from these vineyards that were only for their own consumption. In 1992, it was acquired by the countess Noemi Marone Cinzano. Although she grew up in the vineyards that belonged to her family, Cinzano did not feel the passion for wine until much later. When she got the passion for the vine she decided that Montalcino and the estate of Argiano were the best place to seek the highest quality in wine production. The vineyards extend over 48 hectares (120 acres) with perfect year-round south exposure. In ancient times, the sea covered the whole area, and thus the soil contains large quantities of minerals available to the vines and crucial for their optimal development and the making of high quality wines. The cellars underneath the Villa are one of the most precious jewels of Argiano. It's here, that since the sixteenth century, the wines can age at constant temperature and humidity, and in absence of light and noise. Although famous for their Brunello, today we bring you their special Tuscan blend Non Confunditur. Non Confunditur's initials N.C., are often thought to refer to Noemi Cinzano. The truth however is 'Non Confunditur' is the Latin term written on Argiano's crest and was the motto of the former owners, the Lovatelli Gaetani d'Aragona family. Cinzano named this wine Non Confunditur to honor the prestigious and glorious past of Argiano. Non Confunditur is a unique marriage of both Tuscan and French grapes, like many Super Tuscans. Since 2002, NC has taken its place next to the best Tuscan blends. The final blend is made with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and 20% Syrah.
