Terrabianca Campaccio 2007
Tuscany, Italy
"Very silky and floral, this red reminds me of Burgundy with its bilberry, violet and raspberry aromas and flavors. The grainy tannins show the other side to this wine, which will require time for the two components to balance. Ends with a long, intense, fruit-filled finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2014 through 2027."

In medieval times Podere Terrabianca found itself in the ambiguous situation of being situated in the part of the countryside under the rule of Florence and, at the same time, also in the diocese of the Bishop of Siena. The very first documents mentioning its presence, dated 1085, describe it as being a country estate. Today the winery Terrabianca is located at the heart of the Chianti Classico region, in the middle of Tuscany. The soil has the ideal composition to grow grapes of highest quality. On the 307 acres there are vineyards surrounded by olive groves and woods. They are in the best position in the Tuscan hills for grape growing with south and southeast exposure. The grape varieties grown here are Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Canaiolo, Chardonnay, Malvasia and Trebbiano Toscano. Campaccio is the first wine that Roberto Guldener made here after moving his family here in the late 1980's to fulfill his dream of making great wines. It is a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and spends 12 months in French and American oak barrels before bottling. It spends another 12 months in bottle ageing before release.
