The San Filippo estate is situated in a splendid area to the south-east of Montalcino, where the most elegant and best ageing wines of the entire Brunello district are produced. The estate extends over approximately 54 acres, with 27 under vine; the principal varieties grown are Sangiovese Grosso, Merlot and Syrah. They also have olive groves. Founded in 1972 the estate was recently purchased by Roberto Giannelli, who has restored and renovated all the buildings and outdoor areas of the wine resort. At the same time, he has also reorganized the wine production facility, drawing on the experience of his trusted wine makers and vinification experts. There are four vineyards at San Filippo, one of which is called Le Lucere. All the grapes for this wine come from that single vineyard. The wine is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and also goes through a malolactic fermentation before ageing for 24 months in barrels. It also spends another 8 months in the bottle before release.
