Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Rosso 2010
Tuscany, Italy

"The 2010 Perlato del Bosco explodes from the glass with the energy and sheer power that is typical of the year. Dark red berries, licorice and smoke are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. There is a sense of underlying tension here that is palpable, and that gives the wine much of its focus. This is a great vintage for Perlato del Bosco. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022."

Best known for its iconic Redigaffi, Tua Rita produces some of Tuscany's most enticing Super Tuscans, from rich, Bordeaux-style offerings to delightful Sangiovese-based blends. Tua Rita is located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri. Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti bought the property in 1984 and planted it with Cabernet and Merlot. They later purchased an additional 17.5 acres of land, bringing the total estate to 55 acres, of which about 45 are planted with vines. The winery lies at just 300 feet above sea level, on a clay based, silty soil. In the beginning the couple purchased the property as a retirement home, a place to relax and watch the ocean. The grapes were originally sold to their well-known neighbor down the road at Sassicaia! We're not sure what lit the fire under them but eventually they decided to keep some of the grapes and make their own wine. And what a great decision! Yields are kept to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavors. The estate's total annual production is currently just 3,400 cases. The winery released its first vintage in 1992, and soon began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. With the 2008 vintage, Rita Tua's son-in-law Stefano took over the helm.
