Vinedos Alonso del Yerro Ribera del Duero 2009
Ribera del Duero, Spain

"The 2009 Alonso del Yerro, tasted from a barrel sample, is purple/black in color with outstanding density and richness. It is a promising effort from what looks to be a great Tempranillo vintage in Ribera del Duero. Derenoncourt finds it reminiscent of the 2004. Score range 92-95."

THIS OFFER ENDS October 17, 2012 OR BEFORE IF WE SELL OUT!

In 2002 Javier Alonso and Maria del Yerro started this winery; it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream: to make an excellent wine in an extraordinary area of vineyards in the Ribera del Duero. In fact, Javier left his lucrative pharmaceutical job to pursue this passion. They share their dream with a group of great professionals who feel the same passion, or more, towards the world of wine. From the beginning they enlisted the help of Stephane Derenoncourt, famous French winemaker, for everything related to the vineyard and production. More recently in 2004 they began working with Claude Bourguignon to further improve their soil as they are aware that this will undoubtedly improve the quality of the wines. The vineyard and winery are located in the town of Roa, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero and cover an area of 74 acres divided into four plots where their vines of Tempranillo are currently 20 years old. They only produce two wines, the Maria which is their high end cuvee and the Alonso del Yerro, which we bring to you here today. The grapes for this wine all come from their estate vineyard and are harvested in mid to late October by hand. There is another hand selection that takes place in the winery to remove fruit they do not feel is high enough quality for the wine. The wine spends 23 to 25 days on the skins for maximum extraction of flavor and structure and then another 12 months in French oak before bottling.
