Bodega El Angosto Angosto Tinto 2009
Valencia, Spain
"The 2009 Angosto is made up of equal proportions of Malbec, Garnacha Tintorera, Syrah, Graciano, and Cabernet Franc aged for 10 months in 500-liter French oak. It offers up a complex perfume made more so by a hint of balsamic. Racy raspberries enliven the palate with succulent flavor and vibrant acidity. This classy offering will evolve for 1-2 years but can be approached now."

Bodega El Angosto is in a grand old Valencian farm/manor house, Finca Santa Rosa, in the Vall d'Albaida on the Valencia side of Alicante. It belongs to the Cambra family, who have a 150-year old nursery business which this is part of. The Cambra name resonates in today's Valencian wine world largely as a result of the exploits of one of the region's most prominent young winemakers, Rafael Cambra, who is involved in the El Angosto wines in an advisory capacity. Working in conjunction with Rafael Cambra is another young and highly-trained winemaker, the personable and enthusiastic Oscar Priego. Despite the long-established nursery business and the family's relationship with vines as part of this, the El Angosto project dates only from 2004. There are four wines produced here, three reds and one white. Today's feature, the El Angosto is a blend of Syrah, Graciano, Petit Verdot, Garnacha Tintorera and Malbec.
