 Poggio al Tesoro is a partnership between Marilisa Allegrini, a leading Italian wine producer from the Valpolicella area, and Leonardo LoCascio, President and CEO of Winebow, America's leading importer of fine Italian wines. Together Allegrini and LoCascio have chosen Bolgheri, an outstanding Tuscan wine production zone with a strong reputation for producing great wines. Poggio al Tesoro is situated south of Pisa and just two miles from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The estate consists of 173 acres divided into three vineyard lots. The perfect quantity of sunlight throughout the year, the proximity to the sea, and the uniqueness of Bolgheri's terroirs are reflected in the style of Poggio al Tesoro's wines; ripeness, muscular body, and richness are effortlessly combined with complexity and elegance. The best clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot have been planted at Poggio al Tesoro, with the purpose of crafting top-class wines with a bold international style. Vermentino and Syrah, which produce wines of unmistakable personality in this area, complete the selection of varietals planted at Poggio al Tesoro. Classic and quality-oriented grape-growing and winemaking methods are also employed at harvest and in the cellar: the grapes are all handpicked and selected in the vineyard, then go through an additional selection process at the winery. Red varieties are fermented separately and then blended together for superior balance and a unique flavor profile. Sondraia serves as concrete example of how a textbook Bordeaux blend can be expertly crafted from Bolgheri's terroir, creating an original and easily recognizable masterpiece. The wine is comprised of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.
