Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne 2007
Piedmont, Italy
"The 2007 Barolo Lecinquevigne is a delicious entry-level Barolo. Sweet red cherries spices and French oak are some of the notes that waft from the glass in this supple, silky offering. Sweet hints of tobacco, cedar, candied fruit and crushed flowers linger on the round, silky finish. There is plenty of underlying structure to suggest the wine will drink well for a number of years. This is far from an easygoing entry-level Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022."

Damilano Wine Company is one of the oldest wineries in Barolo. The Damilano family business dates back to 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno, the great grandfather of the winery's current owners, began to vinify his own estate wines. Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, along with his children, developed a love for the vineyards, selecting and maintaining them with great care in order to improve the quality of the wines. The winery passed down through the generations and in 1997 to Giacomo's grandchildren, Paulo, Mario and Guido Damilano, who continue to manage the winery today. They are always seeking new innovations to further refine Damilano's wines. Guido runs the winery itself while Paolo and Mario are in charge of the commercial side. The winery, pictured here, is located about a mile from Barolo. It has been completely renovated. The secret to the high quality of their wines can be found in the grapes which come from 73 hectares (180 acres) of prestigious and select vineyards, many of which are used to produce single vineyard Barolos. In addition to these wines, Damilano produces Barolo Lecinquevigne, a blend of five vineyards from the five different towns: Barolo, Verduno, Grinzne Cvour, La Morra and Novello. These vines range in age from 30 to 50 years old. This is today's feature which can be enjoyed today or aged in your cellar for a number of years.
