Sweet & Inviting 94pt Brunello On Sale!
37% OFF!!

Uccelliera Brunello di Montalcino 2007
Tuscany, Italy

"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is lush, sweet and inviting. Today the 2007 doesn't quite have the sheer visceral thrill and excitement of the 2006, but it more than makes up for that with its early approachability. Dark red berries, spices and crushed flowers are layered into the finish. There is plenty of volume but not a lot of structure. The 2007 Brunello was made from three separate parcels with different altitudes and exposures. Malolactic fermentation was done in steel and the wine was aged in a combination of casks and neutral small French oak barrels. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."

In 1986 Andrea Cortonesi purchased an old farmhouse with property in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, where his family roots are. In somewhat run down condition, Andrea immediately started to renovate the buildings and lands to become primarily a wine making operation. He wanted to preserve the tradition of the property and use the original buildings wherever possible. He also decided to use the centuries old original name of the property "Uccelliera" which means bird house; thus the birds on all the labels. He also decided to keep part of the olive grove made up of trees that are several hundred years old. In the vineyards Andrea gives constant manual care to the vines, thinning the bunches early in the season to concentrate flavors in the remaining fruit. He built a new winery building so he would have the room for modern equipment and a large enough storage area for ageing. Of course, Sangiovese is the grape grown here in the Brunello appellation. This Brunello is aged in a combination of Slavonian casks and small French oak barrels for a minimum of 24 months. After bottling it is aged in bottle for an additional 6 months before release.
