Every day, we are tasting some 200 samples of Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages 2009. Considering the fullness and structure of the wines, it’s not easy to pick out the best from amongst the very good. The greatest difficulty is in choosing the most 'Nouveau', aromatic and, if possible, 'lightest' wines.
In this harvest, in which the sun and exceptional heat have added all their generosity and benefits to the grapes, we have obtained some high-class and even fabulous wines that are mostly for laying down. Very good, perhaps too good. Don’t expect Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 to reveal the characteristics of a jolly, precocious, acidulated, light Beaujolais Nouveau with amyl and, occasionally, redcurrant or wild strawberry aromas. It is more of a generous wine in which the grapes have been picked at an outstanding level of ripeness have produced some hearty, superb, well-balanced wines full of rich, smooth flavours. They have charm and class, they are hearty, flavourful, full-bodied, smooth and succulent, with very marked dark berry flavours: blackcurrants, bilberries and black cherries.
Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 is the vintage of excellence, the sort of vintage that you see once in a lifetime. It expresses the winemaker’s satisfaction and pride. It will offer consumers quality that has never been rivaled before. Some may perhaps find it too rich and generous for a "Nouveau" wine, but be aware that it is a reflection of the wonderful summer we had. The fact is that the Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 is a Great Wine. Its exquisite freshness, fullness and flavour and the smoothness that raises it to the heights of excellence will give you great pleasure and satisfaction. Beaujolais Nouveau 2009 is a three-star wine that will sit in the firmament of the most prestigious vintages.
Yours in Beaujolais, Georges Duboeuf

A firm red, with bright acidity and flavors of raspberry, blackberry and plum, all underscored by a pleasant grapey note. Would be a nice match with light cold cuts. Drink now. 147,000 cases imported.
