Marquis d'Angerville

For a Volnay, whose finesse might easily be submersed under new wood. Jacques d'Angerville defends his decision to use 'never more than 35% new oak - one shouldn't abuse it'. Moreover, the wine only remains in its new barrels until it is racked and unified after the malo some 3-10 months later The remainder of its élévage - 15-24 months in total - is spent in older oak. In preparation for bottling, each cask is fined, without further unification, and given a light plate-filtration.

Wine Advocate

The 2010 Volnay bursts from the glass with bright red fruit, flowers, mint and spices. There is a nervous energy to the Volnay that is incredibly appealing. Beautifully articulated saline notes contribute briskness on the finish. This is a flat-out delicious Volnay. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

Score: 90-92. —Antonio Galloni, February 2012.
