Merry Edwards

The aroma is deeply layered, opening with the distinctive white pepper signature of the 2009 vintage. This quickly expands into a perfume rich with blueberries, wild roses, plums, blackberries, lavender and violets. Accents of exotic Indian spice, sweet pipe tobacco and vanilla bean heighten the experience. On the palate, its fine bones support layers of full, generous tannin and acidity. This Pinot, though tightly wound, is poised, just waiting for time to release its full potential.

Wine Enthusiast

Here's a Pinot to put into your cellar. That's if you can keep from opening it now and savoring the deep, spicy flavors that are so captivating. Offers up layers of cherries, cola, pomegranates, mushrooms, Indian spices and minerals, not to mention a deft touch of sweet, smoky oak. Wonderful tannins and brisk acidity provide balancing structure to the richness. The finish is long. Drink anytime from now through 2017.

Score: 96. —Steve Heimoff, May 01, 2012.

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine

"As deep, as rich and as well appointed in persistent fruit as any of its stablemates, the Pinot Noir from Ms. Edwards' home property is perhaps the best bred of them all. It is at one and the same time weighty and beautifully balanced, and its composed combination of ripeness, sweet oak and fresh cherries puts it on the track for certain improvement with age. Its sense of vigor and fruity stamina makes us think that it could grow for a decade or more, and, if given the choice, we would exercise patience and wait for at least four or five years before pulling its cork."

Score: 95.

Wine Spectator
