Michel Tete

Tête's wines are fleshy and generous, have intense color, lively berry aromas, and notes of black pepper. The Beaujolais-Villages and Juliénas are bold and forward, and very pleasurable even when young. The Cuvée Prestige is aromatically backward in its youth, and its dense, velvety matter develops harmoniously with some bottle age.

Wine Advocate

Michel Tete's 2009 Julienas - the "regular" bottling that he refers to (but not on its label) as "Tradition" - is scented with almond extract, ripe red raspberry and cherry. With a peach-like sweet ripeness as well as red fruits on the palate, along with blond tobacco and toasted pecan, it finishes impressively persistently with a slightly stewed richness and faintly grainy tannins. Although Tete likes to show older bottles (especially of his "Cuvee Prestige), I would drink even this 2009 within the next couple of years. I found a slightly drying and autumn foliage-like character in his otherwise attractive 2008 Julienas mildly disconcerting and grounds to suspect that it already needs drinking.

Score: 89. —David Schildknecht, August 2010.
