Poggio di Sotto

A wine produced from vineyards at 200, 300 and 450 m asl and of varying expositions, where the soil is poor and rocky, mainly composed of marl. The production area is close to Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the river Orcia valley.

Wine Advocate

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is an explosive, structured wine bursting with dark fruit. It is one of the most inward, brooding wines of the vintage. Black cherries, menthol, spices and new leather are some of the nuances that flow as this expansive Brunello literally covers every inch of the palate. This is a totally mesmerizing, sublime wine of the highest level. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031.

Score: 97. —Antonio Galloni, May 2011.

Wine Enthusiast

This is a direct and pungent Brunello with an intense, vertical lift and a steady delivery of fruit, spice and smoke aromas. It opens with dried raspberry, cassis, clove and pipe tobacco followed by fine tannins and persistency.

Score: 92. —Monica Larner, April 01, 2011.
