The Chenin Blanc grape is grown in many of the world’s major wine regions but it is in France where Chenin Blanc is used for really superior wines. Some grapes just seem to grow better in certain climates and Chenin Blanc appears to be one of those grapes. Even in France the great Chenin Blanc wines are from one region, the Loire Valley. Chenin Blanc can be very dry like Savennieres, somewhat sweet like the wines from Vouvray or it can be very sweet and Botrytised like the dessert wines from Quarts de Chaume. It is the high acidity of the Chenin Blanc grape that allows these sweet wines to age for years. In other parts of the world the Chenin Blanc grape produces wine that are generally inferior to the ones from France but some cooler growing ares seem to produce better wine than the warmer climates. Wherever they are from you should buy Chenin Blanc wines at the Ultimate Wine Shop.
