Grenache (or Grenache Noir, the red grape) is one of the most widely planted grapes in the world. Grenache grapes grow well in hot, dry climates like Southern France, Spain and parts of Australia. It develops very high sugar levels and therefore can produce Grenache wines with alcohol levels of 15% or 16%. In France Grenache is the primary grape used in making Chateauneuf-du-Pape blends.
