Malbec is a red wine grape that has been grown in France’s Bordeaux region and used as a blending grape with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Malbec grapes play that same role in France’s Loire Valley where it is blended with Gamay and Cabernet Franc. Even in California there are only small plantings of Malbec. But Argentina is a different matter altogether. Malbec vines were brought there many years ago from France and Malbec wines seem to have found a natural home. For some reason certain grapes just seem to favor certain climates and the Malbec grape has found a home in Argentina where it is produced and bottled on its own producing some profound wines. Wherever they are from you should buy Malbec wines at Ultimate Wine Shop.
