The Muscat grape is a huge family of hundreds of different types that vary greatly in terms of taste and color. What we are featuring here is generally called Muscat Blanc and is a white grape (technically Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains). Note that, depending on where in the world it is grown it is also called: Muscat Canelli, Moscato Bianco, Muscat de Frontignan, Muscat de Lunel, Muscat d'Alsace, Muskateller, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Moscatel Rose and Sargamuskotaly . Muscat grapes are grown around the world in many regions including Italy, France, Australia and California. Muscat is used in winemaking, for table grapes and raisins. One variety called Muscat Blanc a Petits Grains is considered the best for winemaking and is used in most of the Muscat wines you’ll find on our website. Most of these are sweet, dessert style wines. These include the wonderful Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise from the southern Rhone area of France to the dark Muscat dessert wines from Australia. Muscat grapes are also the base for making Asti Spumante in Italy. In addition, the Orange Muscat variety is used to produce some dessert wines in California.
