The Petite Sirah grape is mainly grown in California. It came from France, however, and was originally thought to be related to Syrah and indeed it is. Recent studies have shown that it is actually a variety called Durif that was propagated in the Rhone Valley as a cross between Syrah and Peloursin. Petite Sirah grapes produce a full-bodied, robust wines with plenty of tannins for aging. Petite Sirah is also used for blending with other varietals like Zinfandel to give them more complexity. Wherever they are from you should buy Petite Sirah wines at the Ultimate Wine Shop.
