Sauvignon Blanc grapes are cultivated in many regions around the world. This grape seems especially affected by the area in which it is planted. In California it tends to have grassy, herbal flavors and aromas with pronounced citrus and acidity while in New Zealand, one of the hottest new areas for Sauvignon Blanc, the wines are fruitier with aromas and flavors of gooseberry. This grape is also widely planted in France, Australia and South America. The Sauvignon Blanc wines from the Loire region of France tend to have pronounced mineral flavors and are called by many "flinty" in character. In Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc is blended with Semillon to produce the famous Graves white wines. Sauvignon Blanc is blended into the Sauternes dessert wines also. And in California it was Robert Mondavi who renamed this grape Fume Blanc. Wherever they are from you should buy Sauvignon Blanc wines at the Ultimate Wine Shop.
