Like many others the red Mourvedre grape is know by other names like Monastrell in Spain and Mataro in Australia and California. Mourvedre wine is usually blended with other grapes because it is high in tannin and can be a bit harsh. However we see more examples of standalone Monastrell wines from Spain all the time. In France Mourvedre is often blended into wines from the Southern Rhone like Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Cotes du Rhone to improve color and structure.
