Rocca's entry level Barbaresco, with each vintage proudly announced in Italian across the label, comes from the Montersino zone in Alba. Rich clay soils and ideal southern exposure results in a bold wine with approachable tannic structure. After a short maceration of less than a week, the wine is aged in large 20 hectolitre casks for 22 months. Just 250 cases are made each year.
The 2008 Barbaresco Duemilaotto is a pretty, soft wine best suited to near-term drinking. It shows lovely suppleness in its expressive bouquet, radiant fruit and plush, inviting personality. Gentle spices notes are woven throughout the finish. It is a fabulous wine at this level. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.
