Opaque ruby red in color with arresting aromas of wild berries juniper tobacco and coffee. On the palate the wine is rich, elegant and full-bodied. Pairs perfectly with roast steak lamb or veal.
The 2008 La Grola, a single-vineyard blend of 80% Corvina and 20% Syrah, opens with super-ripe, heady aromatics that lead to exuberant fruit. The wine loses some persistence as the raciness of the fruit tapers off just a touch on the finish. That is admittedly a pretty small critique for a wine that delivers considerable pleasure for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
