Ruby red in color. The aromas are fruity with notes of plum, blackberry, violet and a delicate hint of licorice. On the palate, the important structure is immediately perceived; it is round and vigorous, with a pleasant finish and an amazing persistence.
ere's the kind of simple Rosso di Montalcino that would pair perfectly with with risotto alla Milanese (with delicate meat flavoring and saffron) or roast pork. It's a fresh, zesty wine, with bright berry nuances and a clean, sharp mouthfeel.
The 2010 Rosso di Montalcino flows across the palate with layers of lush, expressive fruit. The wine's minerality comes through on the mid-palate and finish. I very much like the combination of rich fruit and freshness in this lush, textured Rosso. Banfi aged the Rosso in a combination of French oak barrels and casks. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
