Here, terroir expresses itself strongly but the wine remains elegant, although powerful. A lovely sensation of opulence and fullness, with a very persistent finish and enveloped in a tannic structure that is fine but quite present. Hints of forest floor aromas are found in it, from its earliest youth. With age, it moves towards wilder flavours.
Floral, vegetal and sweet spice aromas lead off, with cherry, strawberry and chalky mineral notes picking up the pace as this sinewy red develops. Airy and austere, this will need some time. Best from 2016 through 2035.
Reduction impairs an evaluation of the nose but there is good verve to the relatively finely detailed but broad-shouldered flavors that ooze a noticeable minerality on the tension-filled finish that is not particularly long due, most probably, to the presence of a highly level of gas. There appears to be excellent underlying material along with solid phenolic maturity of the structural components but this is very awkward today. Given the quality of the basic raw material here, as well as the outstanding track record of this wine, my range offers the benefit of the doubt. Score: 91-94 Drink: 2025+ Comments: Sweet spot
