Intense red-purple in the glass. Initial smoky cloves and savoury notes give way to a plum and black cherry nose with hints of sweet oak spice. Medium bodied with well-integrated oak and fruit, this wine has a smooth tannin structure and lingering spice flavours.
Dark and winey, with lots of sappy kirsch, blackberry and plum sauce notes supported by dark licorice and sweet spice through the finish. Shows nice range and character. Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignane, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Tannat. Drink now. 6,000 cases made.
A super-interesting blend of 37% Syrah, 21% Mourvedre, 18% Carignan, 10% Petite Sirah, 10% Grenache and 8% Tannat, the bouquet is loaded with asserive aromas of black currant, licorice, black olive, whole tobacco leaf, cigar box spice and leather. Creamy but firmly textured, like crushed velvet, with a rich boysenberry and plum juiciness to the palate.
The 2009 Chakalaka is a blend of 37% Syrah, 21% Mourvedre, 18% Carignan, 10% Petit Syrah, 10% Grenache and 4% Tannat. It is little smudged on the fig and date-scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate has a sweet, sappy entry with kirsch, orange zest and liquorice and it builds towards the fleshy, generous finish that is ravishing, if rather straightforward finish. This is highly enjoyable. Drink now-2017.
