The Tempranillo grape is primarily planted in Spain. Tempranillo is the primary grape of the most famous area of Spain, Rioja. In many Rioja wines Tempranillo is blended with Grenache and other grapes. There are some newer regions (newer in terms of export to the U.S.) where other clones of Tempranillo stand on their own and produce some stunning wines. One such are is Toro, where the Tempranillo clone is called Tinto de Toro. There are some very old vines in this region that produce some very concentrated and highly rated wines. There are some plantings of Tempranillo in Argentina where they have had some success with Tempranillo wines.
